Cloggs
took a 19 man squad to play the much fancied Wolverton
Town, who have merged with the now folded PB. It was
supposed to be a big test and we were not disappointed
as WTFC showed early that they were a very good side,
quick, strong and played it around well.
Trees were 2-0 down early on but showed good heart
to pull the deficit back through a Dave Benson &
Hedges goal after some good work down the right from
Jeris. We were not out of the game but 3 late 1st
half goals killed off the spirit. Must learn to talk
more and be a little bit quicker in our pass but there
were a lot of encouraging signs from the 1st half.
Wayne, Dave B&H and Tindell in particular showing
some good touches and link up play.
Cloggs made wholesale changes for the second half,
as did WTFC, and trees started brightly looking a
little bit more composed at the back with Shawn playing
very well on his Trees debut. We tried to get in their
faces and that seemed to quell the tide of WTFC attacks,
with the midfield working so hard to protect the back
four we found it hard to get any support to Drury
and Looty who played well creating a few chances with
Looty getting through 1 on 1 only for his touch to
let him down. WTFC then scored 3 more times which
was tough for us to take, but some good commitment
shown from the likes of Wayne F, Gravesy, Walshy and
Shawn we never gave up and were rewarded late on when
Rusty scored a great individual effort picking the
ball up on the half way line and beating 3 WTFC players
before cooly slotting home. Final score 8-2
GAFFA SAYS
Some very good signs and some things to work on in
training. Don't get disheartened as WTFC are a very
good side who are potentially 2 divisions above us.
Next stop on the BTFC tour Potters Bar on sunday in
the annual curtain raiser against John Motsons boys
Roving Reporters.
