Deanshanger v Bletchley Trees
After last week’s washout, this week could not
have been more different with blue skies and sunshine
over the beautiful area of Deanshanger. Trees turn
up with a strong, full squad of 16 players for the
game and with confidence after our last result. A
few changes were needed from our last game due to
injuries and players being away. However, the team
that started still had enough to take the game to
Deanshanger and that’s what we did early on
with good chances for both Homer and Jerome, who both
went through one on one with the keeper only for both
to shot wide. The game then took a turn! Looty was
caught in the eye with an elbow from a Deanshanger
player and this resulted in an early change with Wigsey
filling in at right back. It also resulted in Looty
getting a real shiner! Then even more bad news! The
ball play was played from the Deanshanger half across
field and with a missed tackle the ball was then switched
back across the pitch and over our defence and the
Deanshanger player was through on goal and lifted
the ball over Jon. 1-0 to Deanshanger.
Then even more bad news! Jerome had been roasting
the Deanshanger players out wide but after a challenge
he went down injured. Franny treated the injury and
told Jerome to try and run off the knock. Then 5 minutes
later Justin pulled up with a Hamstring and was immediately
replaced. Oli came on and Bruce was moved to striker.
Jerome was still struggling and went down again a
few minutes later, so we made our 3rd change in less
than 30 minutes. Jon Hall was the replacement. We
saw ourselves through to Half Time with the score
still at 1-0.
The 2nd half started and again we will were making
chances and working ourselves back into the game.
We won a free kick just inside our half on the left
hand side. Shrek hit the ball forward and Bruce won
the header and as the ball dropped at a difficult
angle, Del Priceo was in a great position and struck
the ball first time into the net. 1-1 and we were
back in the game. The game started to become a very
good contest with both teams creating chances and
both keepers being made to work. However, were we
punished for our poor defending. Deanshanger were
looking at playing the ball over the top and out wide
to try and break us down. On one attack we failed
to clear the ball and a poor back pass from Jamie
resulted in the Deanshanger player beating Jon to
the ball and we were now 2-1 down. We started to chase
the game but our chances were limited and we were
not using the width well. The game moved into the
last 10 minutes and both Bruce and Oli were now pushing
forward to help us get another goal. However, with
minutes left another poor back pass from Terry resulted
in a Deanshanger player nipping in and putting the
ball passed Jon. 3-1 to Deanshanger.
Sadly, a day that started out so well ended badly
for the Trees, who had worked hard to get ourselves
back into the game.
Result: Deanshanger 3 Bletchley Trees 1 (1-0 HT)
